In Case of Emergency

Moonlight is not an emergency service. If you're in danger, please contact:

  • 110 – Police

  • 112 – Emergency Medical Services (Fire Brigade and Ambulance)

Our platform is for community awareness and mutual support, not immediate crisis response.

Why These Guidelines Exist

We're co-creating a platform rooted in care, especially for those historically excluded from conversations around safety: women, migrants, queer communities, and other underrepresented groups. These guidelines help ensure Moonlight remains a safe, supportive, and inclusive space for everyone.

What We Value

Our values guide how we show up for each other:

  • Compassion: We lead with empathy and care.

  • Integrity: We share honestly and respectfully.

  • Consent: We always ask, never assume.

  • Accountability: We take responsibility when harm happens.

  • Belonging: We make space for difference without judgment.

How to Contribute Safely

  • Share facts, not assumptions

    • Use specific, observable details when reporting e.g. what happened, when, and where. Avoid vague or interpretive language.

  • Be respectful and inclusive

    • Everyone's comfort level and lived experience is different. Use language that welcomes people of all backgrounds.

  • Avoid bias

    • Focus on behavior, not personal traits like race, clothing, or identity. This helps prevent harmful generalizations.

  • Choose your level of visibility

    • You can post anonymously or with your profile. Both are valid, choose what feels safest for you.

  • Report with care

    • Your reports help others stay informed. You can share both positive experiences and cautionary ones, both matter.

What's Not Okay

To protect this space, we do not tolerate:

  • Hate speech or discrimination (racism, sexism, xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia, ableism).

  • Harassment, stalking, or unwanted contact.

  • Impersonation, catfishing, or false identities.

  • Doxxing or sharing private information without consent.

  • Intentionally misleading or malicious reports.

  • Promoting violence, self-harm, or illegal activities.

  • Using Moonlight to seek romantic or sexual contact.

Reporting & Moderation

If someone violates these guidelines, you can:

Reports are reviewed by a small moderation team. We are committed to thoughtful, trauma-informed handling of all reports. Retaliation against someone for reporting will not be tolerated.

Depending on the situation, we may:

  • Issue a warning

  • Suspend or delete the user account

  • Ban the user from accessing the platform

  • Share the report with relevant local support services (if needed and appropriate)

Appeals

If your account has been flagged or suspended, you can:

  • Contact us at hello@moonlightapp.de with your appeal

  • We aim to review all appeals within 10 working days

  • Decisions are guided by our community values and policies

This Is Your Space

Moonlight is still growing, and we're learning with you. These guidelines are a living document. If you have thoughts or ideas, join one of our community feedback circles or email us.

Together, we're building something rooted in trust, not fear.
